spawning. So there it was: barnacle sex, and you missed it. The water was nice and the dive ended before 8, so we were out before it got dark. I wonder if anybody would want to check the canyon next Tuesday night.

It was 6/22, the first day of Summer officially. There I was on Vallecitos St. looking for all the Dive Animals that would show up for the Tuesday night dive. We began to suit up after waiting for stragglers and waded West. There was no surf, none, zero. We decided to look for the North end. When we found it, there was a bat ray foraging for something. Jean swam after him, but they are a little shy. A Sacastic Fringehead glowered at us, and octopus peered from holes. The bot

tom was littered with halibut less than 2" long. Then we saw a white cloud hovered over a section of the edge. It was about 8 inches high, and was like smoke. Then we could see a spurt of white shoot out of the mud and spiral up 4-5". It looked like a clam was trying to learn to blow smoke rings. According to Long, current plans call for the Yukon to be berthed along the Embarcadero starting in mid-September in cooperation with the San Diego Maritime Museum. Until that time, the ship will be located at the 24th Street Marine Terminal in National City.
