They're the two hardest words for any diver to say: "I'm Bent." Continued
(Continued from page 7)
I'm still not sure I actually have DCS. What do I do? This is an easy one. Call DAN's nonemergency number (919-684-2948) if you need some expert assistance in trying to decipher your symptoms. They have doctors on call 24 hours a day who can help answer questions, as well as ask a few of their own, and arrive at some sort of decision about your complaints. What if I know that I have the bends? What do I do? This is even easier. Start sucking on some oxygen and have someone call DAN's emergency number immediately. This number-(919) 684-8111-is one that all divers
should have tattooed on their foreheads. These are the folks who can arrange for you to be transported and treated at the nearest chamber. Just make sure that you have joined DAN before your trip. They will help you out either way. But if you need to be treated in a chamber, you will find the whole ordeal less painful if you're covered by DAN's insurance.
