Greetings from Pinnacle Divers!
As I write, the sunshine, blue sky and 70+ degrees are finally heralding spring and the improving dive conditions. A long winter and a (once again) seemingly endless string of poor ocean conditions has resulted in a Sahara-like wetsuit, now looking two sizes smaller than the last time it hugged my body. The cobwebs strung between my tank valves and dust on my BC are unwelcome signs of my too-long captive gills.
As you may recall, El Ninơ hit hard during the 1997-1998 winter season, causing flooding and rain across the U.S. while inflicting droughts, fires and crop failure in Florida, Africa, India and Australia. San Diego experienced more than our usual rainfall and saw 75+ degree water temperatures in September. Indeed, water temperatures were reported above 100 degrees around Cabo San Lucas, devastating marine ecosystems. The usual visitations by whales, rays and sharks all but disappeared.
In contrast, we are now in a strong La Nină condition, which is most likely to blame (at least partially) for our cold winter lasting into May. San Diego even experienced hailstorms in April, a rare, if not unprecedented, event. The water remains a chilling 53 degrees as the Pacific currents

We'll also do a search for the "wagon wheels", a known point of interest near La Jolla Cove. The locating team will even receive a prize! This course starts in June.
Nitrox (EANx). This course will sort out all the hype, misinformation and mystery surrounding Nitrox. We'll discuss the facts and tradeoffs of diving Nitrox, when to use it and when to leave it behind, and safety procedures. If you're a serious and avid diver, this course will be informative and a useful addition in your diving toolbox. Slated for June.
Rescue/Divemaster/Dan O2/MFA Package. For those interested in becoming a professional, this course "combo" is all inclusive of everything you need to become a Divemaster. The courses are fun, informative and very challenging. You will be pushed hard to become a capable and respected diver with a clear sense of the responsibility carried by a Divemaster. If you're up to the challenge, the course starts in August.
I raise my regulator to a long, favorable summer of diving! C-Ya!!!
